Elba Aliff
Elba Allen “Al” Aliff Jr., 81, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at his residence. The Ashland, Ky., native was born March 25, 1930, the son of the late Elba Olive and Pearl Williams Aliff. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lynn Kaiser Aliff.
Al attended Ashland High School and was a retired employee of Armco Steel where he worked in the maintenance department. He attended the Trinity Gospel Church in Coal Grove.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Rice; three sisters, Janet Higgins, Betty Adkins, and Juanita Aliff; and a brother, Alvin Aliff.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Susan Wireman and Alice Jean Suttles, both of Ashland, Ky.; a son and his fiancée, David Allen Aliff and Page Burkhart of Ashland; two stepsons, Karl Allen Rust and his wife, Kathy, and Jaime Ray Blevins, all of Ironton; four grandchildren, Lisa and Jayson Everman, Chris Aliff Stith, Jessica Delong and Amber and Mike Bell; four stepgrandchildren, Troy Michael Rust, Molly Sue Rust, Versie Fannin, and Nicholas Cole Blevins; five great grandchildren, Joshua Riffe, Candace Riffe, Ryan Mullins, Riley Mullins and Tyler Bell; and his four-legged companion, his dog: “Bruno.”
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in the Veteran’s Section. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Thomas Hatfield
Thomas “Bill” Hatfield, 86, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Martin County, Ky., native was born Oct. 13, 1925, the son of the late Walter Ferrell Hatfield and Hattie Hatfield Branham. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Inas Marie Fluty Hatfield.
Bill attended Robert Lewis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was a former tool and die maker for the Ensign Electric Co. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990. He attended the Nazarene Church in Coal Grove but was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kermit Hatfield, Edward Hatfield and Wallace “Wally” Hatfield; and two sisters, Eunice Shendock and M. Dale Keaton.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Mary Ann Hatfield of Willow Wood and Thomas F. and Patty Hatfield of Waverly; two daughters, Sharon L. Hatfield of Charlotte, N.C. and Peggy Bowman of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, Gloria Webb of South Point, Robert Hatfield of Milford, and Jeffrey Hatfield of Aurora, John Hatfield of Gallipolis, Brian Hatfield of Point Pleasant, W.Va., Shannon Hatfield of Logan, Marissa Hatfield of Portsmouth, M. Adam Traylor of Houston, Texas and Danielle Joyce of Dupont, Wash.; 20 great grandchildren;
a sister and brother-in-law, Billy Ann and James Horn of Martin County, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with his son, Henry Hatfield and his siblings officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Adam Lee Maynard, 35, of Charleston, formerly of Chesapeake, died Friday at home. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
