Four firefighters hurt in early morning fire

ROME TOWNSHIP — An early morning fire in Rome Township sent four firefighters to the hospital and has destroyed a garage and apartment above it.

Rome Township volunteer firefighter George Barnett said the call for help came shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday; firefighters found the Orchard Drive structure “fully involved.”

Barnett said the apartment was vacant; there were two cars in the garage.

The firefighters were injured when a wall collapsed. Though none of the firefighters were seriously injured they were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. for treatment.

The fire remains under investigation.

Coal Grove native makes dean’s list

OXFORD — Adam Kendall Abt of Coal Grove was named to the Miami University dean’s list.

Miami University students who achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average for first semester 2011-2012 have been named to the dean’s list recognizing academic performance.

Miami University is a public university located in southwestern Ohio, offering more than 100 degree programs in humanities, science, engineering, business, education and fine arts.

Chesapeake alum earns spot on honor roll

LEXINGTON, Va. — Stephanie Rice of Chesapeake, a member of the class of 2015 at Washington and Lee University, has earned honor roll status for the recently ended fall term.

Honor roll status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
