Guitarist Julio Alves and flutist Wendell Dobbs make up the group. Soprano Linda Dobbs will be joining the duo for the event; they will be performing folk songs by Seiber and Copland.

Alves and Wendell Dobbs are faculty members from Marshall University’s music department. The Duo has explored ethnic and national diversity over the past few years. They have studied modern music from North and South America, and ancient music from Europe. Violauta is coined from the Brazilian word for guitar, violao and the Italian word for flute, which is flauta.

Dr. Dobbs ‘s artistry has been favorably compared to that of famous flutist, Sir James Galway, for his technical skill and musical interpretations. For the past two years, Dobbs has teamed with Alves to create musical sounds with a Brazilian flavor.

The concert will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Bowman Auditorium. Tickets are $10; they can be purchased at the door. Ohio University students are admitted free with valid ID.
