Charlotte Nichols

Surrounded by her loving family, Charlotte L. Fultz Nichols of Ironton, passed from this life following an extended illness Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky., to be with her Lord. She turned 87 years old on Feb. 27 and will be so sadly missed by her family and friends.

Charlotte was born on Feb. 27, 1925 in South Portsmouth, KY, a daughter of the late Delbert and Iva Fultz. Charlotte grew up in the South Portsmouth Methodist Church. She became a licensed beautician after attending South Portsmouth High School and also worked many years as manager at Connie Jane’s Dress Shop in Ashland, Ky.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Delbert Nichols. He was born and raised in Greenup, Ky., was a professional boxer early in his life and later retired from C&O Railroad.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by her two adoring daughters, Elane Elder of Greenup, Ky., and Uvalde (Val) L. Ford of Ironton, Ohio. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Eric Zane Elder, Keelie Monesa Brown, Marlie Yvonne Richardson and Heidi Jane Freeman. She was also very proud of her nine great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. Charlotte is also survived by her sister Helen Yvonne Lyon of Portsmouth, Ohio. She was an animal lover and will be missed by her three special cats, Sugar, Prissy and LT.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

To celebrate the life of Charlotte Nichols, visitation for family and friends will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Music Family Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky., and from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services in honor of Charlotte will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Revs. Jan Williams and Doug Henry officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in South Shore, Ky.

 

Kenneth Herrell

Kenneth Albert Herrell, 77 of Proctorville, formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 18, 2012, from the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born  June 25, 1934, in Pedro, the son of the late Frank and Opal (Robinson) Herrell.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Charlene Herrell; one brother, George Herrell; two sisters, Ann Coburn and Ruth Spears and one daughter, Cheryl Abrams.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, drove a milk truck, was a retired crane operator at AK Steel and a member of the First Altizer Freewill Baptist Church. He attended Abundant Life Baptist Church with his son and daughter-in-law, David and Darlena Herrell with whom he made his home.

He is survived by two brothers, Glen Herrell (Misty) of South Point and Chuck Herrell (Linda) of Chilhowie, Va.; sisters, Sandra Foster of Chesapeake, Bonnie Leszkowics (Rick) of Findlay and Becky Cremeens (Rick) of Kitts Hill; son, David Herrell (Darlena) of Proctorville; daughters, Evelyn Philpot (Jerry) of Naples, Fla., and Kim and (Steve Carpenter) Herrell of Ironton;  stepson, Doug Freeman (Jill) and one step-daughter, Cheri Absten (Tim); 13 grandchildren, David Herrell of Florida, Jared (Savanah) Herrell of Ohio, Justin Herrell (Rebekah) of West Virginia, Catelyn Henson (Travis) of Ohio, Timothy Herrell (Meagan) serving in Japan, Nathan Herrell of Florida, Chris Shuff and Renee Philpot of Florida, Megan and Josh Absten of West Virginia, Erin, Madison, Morgan Freeman of West Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Ava Herrell, Kaleb Herrell and Sophie Grayce Henson that brightened his day and a host of nieces and nephews and a special dog, Abby.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, with Pastor Fred Ramey and Pastor Chuck Herrell officiating.  Burial will follow in Forrest Lawn Memorial Park, Huntington.  Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Henson Mortuary. Alvin Harper

Alvin Harper, 81, of Kitts Hill, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of Verna Harper, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

 

Clarence Williamson

Clarence Ernest Williamson, 77, of Huntington, W.Va., died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was the husband of Vicki Williamson, who survives. Funeral will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Apostolic Life Cathedral. A private family graveside service will be Friday. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Margaret Adkins

Margaret Alice Bias Adkins, 87, of South Point, widow of Kimball B. Adkins, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at home.  Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

 

Thomas Goody

Thomas Rondy Goody, 74, of Ironton, Ohio was called home to be with the Lord Monday, March 19, 2012. He bravely dealt with cancer, but the memory of his fun-loving personality, hobbies and love of life cannot be diminished by this disease. He was born on Oct. 3, 1937, to the late Lott Bledge Goody and Ethel (Webb) Woods.

Thomas attended Hanging Rock School and was retired from the US Navy and Columbia Gas of Ohio. He was the past master mason of Waterloo Lodge 532, 32nd degree mason, Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rite and a Shriner of El Hasa Shrine Temple, Ashland, Ky. He was a member of the River and Rail Antique Automobile Club and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny B. Goody and his wife Madge Goody; granddaughter Alexis Keen, nephews Jackie Goody, Johnny “Little John” Goody and Jerry Haas, brother-in-law George Wooten and a step daughter Dora “Leeann” Horton.

He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife, Mary Agnes (Wooten) Goody; daughters, Theresa Smith of Flatwoods, Ky., Tami and Carl Meade, Jr. of Ashland, Ky.; step daughters, Helen and Michael Denton of Logan, Ohio, and Nancy Lewis of High Point, N. C.; brother, Jack and Kay Goody of Ashland, Ky.; brother, Eddie “Redbird” and Gracie Woods of Greenup, Ky., brothers-in-law, Roger and Karen Wooten of Columbus and Harry and Mary Ann Wooten of Portsmouth, grandchildren: Haley Keen, Carly Jean Meade, Justin Kinder, Matthew Kinder, Heather Amburgey and Misty Amburgey; special nephew, Scott “Buck” and Raelynn Haas of Ironton; special friend Ron “Rondo” and Betty Davis and family of Ironton, and a host of nieces and nephews of whom he loved all.

Funeral will be11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m.Thursday at the funeral home. Phyllis Davis-Caudell

Phyllis Miller Davis-Caudell, 72, of Russell, Ky., formerly of Ironton, Ohio, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland. Funeral services will 1 p.m. Thursday, at Advance United Methodist Church in Flatwoods with Pastors Mark Wilson and Don Young officiating.
