Vehicle theft leads to accident, multiple charges

ROME TOWNSHIP — An Ironton woman racked up multiple charges Sunday after allegedly stealing a van, crashing it and then fleeing from the scene.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Lunsford said Brandy Traylor, 26, of Ironton, ran off the left side of County Road 12 outside of Proctorville, hit some trees, and then ran away from the scene.

The accident happened at about 4 p.m. Sunday. Lunsford said the OSHP found her at about 7 p.m. at an Ironton residence.

Lunsford also said the vehicle was stolen from Traylor’s ex-boyfriend in Ironton. The vehicle was reported stolen by the owner to the Ironton Police Department the same day.

“(Traylor) said she was scared and that she didn’t have a driver’s license,” Lunsford said of why Traylor fled the scene.

OSHP charged Traylor with driving under suspension, leaving the scene of a crash and failure to control. She was not injured.

The IPD will handle the vehicle theft case, Lunsford said.

No fee increases in Huntington’s new $40.9M budget

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Huntington’s new $40.9 million budget maintains city services without raising the user fee.

Media outlets report that the fiscal 2013 budget approved Monday by City Council also includes funding to hire six firefighters.

Mayor Kim Wolfe had proposed increasing the user fee from $3 a week to $5. He said the increase was the only way to maintain services.

The new budget reduces the city’s health insurance costs for employees by $500,000. It also eliminates eight vacant public works positions.

 

W.Va. woman who fell one floor in garage dies

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Putnam County woman has died from injuries suffered when she fell one floor in a downtown Huntington parking garage.

Cabell Huntington Hospital says 39-year-old Patricia King of Bancroft died Monday afternoon.

Media outlets report that King fell about 6 feet from the fourth floor of the Central Huntington Garage to the third floor Friday morning.

No one saw the accident. But witnesses told fire officials that lights in the garage went out momentarily.

The investigation is continuing.

 

Ky. thieves make clean getaway

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) —Thieves in eastern Kentucky have made a clean getaway – with a bathtub.

An Ashland woman reported to police that the tub was stolen last week after it was delivered to her home by UPS.

The Independent cited a police report, which said the cast iron tub was an antique valued at $1,800. Police are investigating.

 

OU women’s fair set for April

PROCTORVILLE — Ohio University Proctorville Center will host the Third Annual Women’s Resource Fair Thursday, April 5 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

This free event is open to the community as well as OUS faculty, staff and students.

The event will feature representatives from local advocacy groups, community resources, health, nutrition, and wellness information.

There will be a free kickboxing demonstration from 11:30-12 p.m.
