AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got away from some bad habits and had a good performance.

The Lady Vikings played error-free as they beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 6-4 on Friday.

“We got away from the walks and we didn’t have any errors,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“We hit the ball a lot better. We hit the ball hard and even our outs we hit it hard right at them.”

Coal Grove (1-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first as Kaitlynn Murphy doubled, Kelsey Grove walked, a wild pitch moved them up and Shelby Haynes had a two-run single.

The lead went to 3-0 in the top of the third on a two-out single by Deanna Bentley who stole second and third and scored on Haynes’ hit.

But the Lady Vikings (2-3) came back with five in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

Abby Walden was hit by a pitch, Hannah Roach singled, a wild pitch put them at second and third and Karie Brumbaugh singled them home. Beth Brown singled and the runners moved up on a wild pitch.

Katie Hill was safe on an error as the runners scored and she came around to score on a wild pitch.

Coal Grove got a run in the sixth when MaKayla Truesdale walked and came around on a ground out and two wild pitches.

The Lady Vikings got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Roach doubled with two outs and scored as Brumbaugh reached on an error.
