FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats brought their lunch pails and went to work.

In steady fashion the Bobcats beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 12-2 in five innings on Friday and remained tied for first place in the Southern Ohio Conference.

“It was a nice bounce-back game after (losing) last night. It was a workman-like effort,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

Green (9-4, 7-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Mike Avery singled, Clay Applegate walked and Colton Brammer singled them home following a wild pitch.

The lead went to 8-0 in the second.

Adam Riffitt singled, Matt Howard was hit by a pitch, Caleb Johnson put down a sacrifice and Riffitt beat the throw home when Avery hit a ground ball.

Clay Applegate walked and Rob Applegate singled home two more runs. Brammer was safe on an error as a run scored and Steve Ratcliff doubled in a run.

East got two runs in the top of the third but Green answered with two of its own in the bottom of the frame.

Howard walked, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Avery’s base hit. Clay and Rob Applegate walked and Cody Bruce had a two-run double. Brammer grounded out as Bruce scored the final run.

Johnson got the win as he gave up just four hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
