FLATWOODs, Ky. — During tough economic times where gas prices are approaching $4 a gallon, there is a new taxi service giving the citizens of Lawrence County an alternate solution to the unforgiving gas pumps.

Safeway Taxi is focused on serving the Tri-State area.

“We are here to stay,” Robert Parker, owner, said. “We are dedicated to serving the community’s transportation needs.”

Ironton citizens can catch a ride to Ashland for $12 and they can travel to South Point for $20.

“We are trying to keep our rates the same,” Belinda Howard, co-owner, said. “Our rates are some of the lowest around.”

Howard said she knows the importance of customer service.

“We try not to make them wait longer than 30 minutes. That is our goal,” Howard said. “Customers complain about other taxi services having to wait an hour or longer, or not showing up at all.”

Safeway Taxi offers a 365 days a year, 24-hour service.

According to Howard, the family-owned company is more than a business.

“We have a heart. We try to help,” Howard said. “We are here to make money but we are here to serve the public. We are here to help people more than anything.”
