Lady Pointers win 20-10

SOUTH POINT — Are you sure this wasn’t a football game?

In a game that featured plenty of offense, the South Point Lady Pointers outscored the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 20-10 in five innings on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The wild affair highlighted senior night for the Lady Pointers’ Sarah McCallister, Haley Rickard, Morgan Wells and Rachel Murnahan.

Rickard was 4-4 and two runs batted in, Murnahan went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI and Abbey Winkler went 2-3 with two RBI.

Coal Grove pitchers combined to allow 13 hits, 10 walks and hit four batters. They struck out three.

The Lady Hornets got a run in the first inning on a walk to Kaitlynn Murphy and a single by Kelsi Grove.

South Point sent 20 batters to the plate and scored two touchdowns, er, 14 runs in the bottom of the first.

Winkler and Rickard had two singles and Brianna Whaley and Hannah Carey one each in the offensive explosion.

The Lady Pointers got three runs in the second. Murnahan hit her sixth home run of the season, Andi Kleinman and Morgan Wells were hit by pitches and Rickard and Winkler had RBI singles.

Two runs scored in the third on two walks, an error and singles by Aerial Boggs and Rickard.

Coal Grove’s offense came to life in the fourth with four runs on three walks, a passed ball and singles by Leah Crum and Shelby Haynes.

The Lady Pointers got their final run in the bottom of the inning on a walk to Whaley and a hit by Powell.

The Lady Hornets scored five times in the fifth on four walks, a hit batter, an error and a single by Gabbie Carpenter.
