Red Caboose hosts style show

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Red Caboose Regional Artisan Center will present “Chapeaux on the Patio – Luncheon and Style Show” on Friday, May 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the patio at Heritage Station.

This inaugural event will include food, music, a hat contest, as well as local models featuring clothes, jewelry and accessories by regional businesses. Food will be provided by River & Rail Bakery and music will be provided by Gabriel Heater, classical violinist.

Models will show items from: The Red Caboose, Finds and Designs, Common Ground, Memories of the Heart, Robella’s, and Laine’s Handmade Funky. Hats are optional, however there will be a hat contest with three categories and great prizes. Hat contest categories include: Prettiest, Most Unusual, and Most Whimsical.

Pictures in the Park returns to BCPL

ASHLAND, Ky. — Bring the family for an outdoor showing of “Kung Fu Panda 2” on Friday, May 4, at the Main Branch of Boyd County Public Library.

The showing is the first in this year’s Pictures in the Park series at BCPL. The movie is shown on a 12-foot screen, just adjacent to the Reading Garden at Main, 1740 Central Ave.

The library recently purchased a new projector, screen and speaker system, which means movie-goers will enjoy a clearer picture and better sound.

The movies are all family-friendly, and start at dark – about 9 p.m. The library closes at 5 p.m., so movie attendees should come to the side of the building. If the weather is bad, the movie will be shown the following Friday.

People need to bring their own chairs and blankets to the movie. Admission is free, and a movie snack will be provided.

“Kung Fu Panda 2,” rated PG, is the 2011 sequel to the 2008 hit movie. In this one, Po and his friends fight to stop a peacock villain from conquering China with a deadly new weapon, but the Dragon Warrior must come to terms with his past.

Anti-bullying among workshop events scheduled at OUS

Teen dating violence, bullying, school bus and school climate and cyber safety are the topics that will be discussed at the Ohio University Southern Council for Diversity and Cultural Enrichment workshop that will be held at Ohio University Southern on May 4.

All public school administrators, counselors, teachers, and members of the community are invited to attend the event entitled “Changing the Climate and Creating Success in Our Schools” The workshop will be held in the Bowman Auditorium at Ohio University Southern in Ironton from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, May 4.

“This event will address the non-academic needs of students to reduce risk behaviors and provide a safe and supportive learning environment for the 21st Century,” says Adam Fry, OUS Interim Coordinator Office of Disability & Career Services.

The workshop will be led by representatives from The Ohio Department of Education, The Ohio Department of Health, The Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, and The Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success. This event is free and open to the public.
