Woman killed in ATV crash

SOUTH POINT — A South Point woman is dead following an ATV accident Sunday.

According to a release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, a male subject had been driving an ATV in the 2600 block of County Road 55. A woman was his passenger.

“They attempted to climb a hill, but as the ATV reached the top, the wheels began to spin on the muddy hillside,” the release states.

The vehicle then flipped and rolled over the woman. The driver did not suffer injuries.

“The Lawrence County EMS came to the scene but were unable to revive the female,” the release states.

The woman was pronounced dead by the county coroner’s office. The accident, which remains under investigation, happened on private property. The names of the victim and the driver are being withheld until family members are notified.
