PEDRO — It all came down to one mistake.
Rock Hill’s Drew Kidd and Oak Hill’s Colton Cox were locked in a scoreless pitching duel for five innings. But an error allowed the Oaks to score the game’s only run in a 1-0 win over the Redmen on Saturday in the Division III sectional finals.
“We had our chances. We just didn’t hit. Kidd pitched a good ballgame, but their kid did a nice job. He had us out on our front foot and we kept hitting the ball in the air,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
Kidd took the loss despite allowing just four hits, striking out nine and walking two. Cox also gave up four hits, struck out two and walked one.
The Oaks got the game’s only run in the top of the sixth.
Drew Haislop reached on a two-base error, moved up on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a one-out hit by Garrin Stiltner.
“Oak Hill has a good ball club. They did what it took to win,” said Litteral.
Rock Hill loaded the bases in the seventh inning with two outs but Cox got a ground out to end the game.
The Redmen also had a runner at third base with no outs in the fifth but a failed on a suicide squeeze attempt.
Rock Hill finishes the season 16-7.
“We played well defensively for the most part. Our kids played well the entire year. They had a great season,” said Litteral.
