PEDRO — The Wayne National Forest Ironton Ranger District and Lawrence County officials will have a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly constructed County Road 29 bridge at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31 at the bridge site near the Lake Vesuvius Dam. After the brief ceremony, the bridge will once again be reopened for public use.
In late July 2010, heavy rains caused Stormes Creek to flood and damage the existing bridge which is on a heavily used road in the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area.
Funding for the construction of the new bridge came from the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Soon after the flood, the Wayne National Forest applied for federal assistance through the FHWA Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) program and was awarded the funds necessary to complete the project.
