At 12:45 p.m. on May 28, children, teens, and adults were standing in line waiting for the Staton Family to open the doors at Sta-Tan Swimming Pool located in north Ironton.

Opening day for the 2012 season had finally arrived.

It was definitely worth waiting in the 90 degree temperature just to observe the anticipation on the faces of those young and old.

We had been counting the days!

There are only a few family owned businesses remaining in Ironton and Sta-Tan Swimming Pool is one of these special treasures that we need to support by simply enjoying.

I am not sure that the community is aware of what an important asset Sta-Tan Swimming Pool is to our area.

Did you know that the facility offers: Olympic size pool, a shelter for picnics and parties, food concessions, locker rooms, spacious lawn areas, children’s pool, special events, popular music, diving boards, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts?

Just the fact that the Olympic size pool is always well maintained says a lot for the commitment that the owners have had since 1960 to provide a safe recreational environment for individuals and families.

If you have not had the opportunity to enjoy Sta-Tan Swimming Pool recently or in your lifetime, great memories are waiting to be made for you and your family.

Sta-Tan Swimming Pool is in many chapters of my childhood and teenage memory book. My children spent summers at Sta-Tan Pool and now I am enjoying the amenities and my memories.

Swimming and water activity is great exercise and outdoor activities afford children the opportunity to live healthy happy lives.

Water exercise also keeps adults moving!

The friendly environment is a great venue for children and teens to meet friends and families to spend quality time together.

There is plenty of room in the spacious pool as well as the convenient parking lot for new members.
