ROME TOWNSHIP — Shawna Myers walked away with the grand champion trophy after the market hog show Tuesday night at the Lawrence County Junior Fair. Savannah Keathley took home the reserve champion trophy.

Judge Dave Runyon of Bellefontaine complimented the hard work of the 13 classes of young people who brought hogs.

“It’s an excellent show from top to bottom,” Runyon said. “I’m really satisfied. You’ve got depth.” He also complimented the new fair barn.

What does it take to bring in a winning hog?

“You never know,” Myers said of her 275-pound piggie, which she did not name.

Keathley was more specific about her 270-pound hog named Presley (after Elvis).

“Good breeding, feeding and care. You’ve got to spend a lot of time with them, work with them a lot. Patience is another thing,” Keathley said.

The fair continues through Saturday in Rome Township.
