Ironton Sports Festival set Aug. 16-18

As football season approaches, all thoughts turn toward sports in general.

Ironton will mix its football scrimmage with other events by celebrating the inaugural Sports Festival Aug. 16-18.

On Thursday, Aug. 16, an OHSAA meeting for players and parents will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The meeting is mandatory. Community members are welcome to attend.

If unable to attend the meeting, parents can view the meeting video on the OHSAA website at OHSAA Preseason Meeting.

A “Meet the Tigers” will be at 6:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the high school

On Friday, a golf tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at the Ironton Country Club. The fee is $200 per foursome. Anyone interested should contact Nate Kline at (740) 533-7719.

At 7 p.m. Friday Ironton will play at Coal Grove in the Jamboree Game.

On Saturday, a 5K run/walk will be held starting at 9 a.m. The run/walk will start at Ironton High School. Pre-registration fee is $15 and $20 after Aug. 12. Race day registration will start at 8 a.m.

Also on Saturday a craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Conley Sports Center. A 10×10 booth is $25. Interested persons should contact Valerie Freeman at (740) 533-7462.

Inflatables will be available for children from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Tanks Memorial Stadium.

Zumba will be held at 10 a.m. in the Conley Center and it is free.

A “Sweet Treat” auction will be held at 11 a.m., also in the Conley Center.

At noon a “Meet the Ironton Youth Football” will be held in the Conley Center.

Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m., the Hall of Fame dinner will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Cost is $15 for singles and $25 for couples in advance. Cost at the door is $20 for singles and $30 for a couple.
