Chesapeake man killed in one-car accident

ROME TOWNSHIP — A Chesapeake man is among the victims of a one-car crash that happened on Big Paddy Road in Rome Township Sunday night.

Greg B. Fortner, 52, of Chesapeake has been identified as one of three killed in the accident that happened at approximately 7:57 p.m. on County Road 12, four miles north of County Road 411.

Jami S. Wood, 51, of Huntington, W.Va., has also been identified by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, as a crash victim.

According to the patrol, a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee did not negotiate a curve on the roadway and went off the left side, striking a tree. The driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner.

Investigators continue to search for the identity of the third party to notify next of kin. There has been no determination as to who was the driver of the vehicle.
