Marketta Valentine

Marketta Valentine, 78, of Franklin Furnace, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. Born Aug. 1, 1934 in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Elzie and Alta Reed Tackett, she was a 1952 Clay High School graduate. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and her master’s degree from Xavier University. She was retired from Green Local Schools where she was a teacher and a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Rick) Daniels of Minford and Janet (Randy) Crace of Franklin Furnace; two sons, Randy (Susie) Childers of Minford and Rob (Leah) Valentine of Russell, Ky; six grandchildren, Brent (Deborah) Daniels, Rachael Childers, Sean (Mandy) Childers, Ashley (Craig) Spangenburg, Amy (Ryan) McClintic, Tyler Crace; and six great grandchildren, Eli Daniels, Erin Daniels, Kallie Childers, Morgan Spangenburg, Madison Spangenburg and Alex Spangenburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Challas Tackett.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Brett McGraw officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Mildred Thomas

Mildred Ferris Hanners Eicher Thomas, 91, of South Point passed away Friday, August 3, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ashland native was born July 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles and Flora Jackman Hanners. She is survived by her husband Andy Earl Thomas whom she married Nov. 12, 1993. Mrs. Thomas attended Ironton High School and Ashland Community College. She was a homemaker and a former nurse’s aide for Jo-Lin Health Center and a respiratory assistant for King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was a member of South Point First Baptist Church and a former member of the Hanging Rock Nazerene Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher.

She was active in the Hanging Rock PTO, Senior Citizen Bowling League, a volunteer at King’s Daughters Medical Center, and enjoyed playing rook with her friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Arnold Eicher; two brothers, Leonard “Ike” Hanners and Alvie Hanners; and two sisters, Dreama Gale Hanners and Myrtle Barrett. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Tenny Hanners of Pensacola, Fla., and Thomas and Connie Eicher of Ironton; two stepsons, Danny and Terri Thomas of Ironton and Rick and Vicki Barrett of Coal Grove; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Dallas Patrick

Dallas Patrick, 83, of Wurtland, Ky, formerly of Oil Springs, Ky., died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012. Graveside memorial service will be held at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup County at 11 a.m. Monday with full military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Honor Guard of the VFW Post #8850 of Ironton. Ruby Barker-Perry

Ruby Jane Barker-Perry, 83, of Flatwoods, Ky., died at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky., Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 . Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ashland Plaza Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Philip Perry Sr., officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church. Geraldine Maenza

Geraldine Tevian  Maenza, 83, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va.
