Samuel Leffingwell

Samuel Leffingwell Jr. II, 53, of Pedro, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born March 1, 1959, the son of Samuel Leffingwell Jr. of Oak Hill and the late Joanne Aldridge Leffingwell.

Samuel was a graduate of Oak Hill High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Army Reserve.  He was a former mechanic for Tri-America Contractors and formerly worked for Collins Mining, Bellville Mining, Waterloo Coal, and Dutch Miller. He enjoyed racing, working on cars and riding 4-wheelers.

In addition to his father he is survived by his fiancée, Rhonda Pierce of Pedro; brother, David Leffingwell of Chillicothe; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Roger Coleman of Oak Hill;

nephew, Smoo Paulins; several other nieces and nephews; one great niece and one great nephew.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Bryon Carmon officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery in Oak Hill. Visitation will be today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Carol Morgan

Carol Jean Morgan, 70, of Ironton, passed away Saturday Aug. 11, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born July 18, 1942, the daughter of the late John M. and Stella Smeltzer Abbott. She was the widow of Danny Ralph Morgan whom she married Sept. 22, 1961.

Carol attended Ironton City Schools and was of the Protestant faith. She formerly worked as an assembler for Wilson Sporting Goods and also work for Tipton’s and Cabletron.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Abbott;

mother-in-law, Donna Morgan; and a son-in-law, Christopher Rodgers.

Carol is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Danette and Rex Robinson of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Larry Holtzapfel of Ironton; son, David Morgan and his friend Heather Berry-Cooke of Bellefonte; daughter, Penny Rodgers and her friend Pat Coleman of Ironton;

sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Larry Wells of Ironton; brother, John Abbott of Indianapolis;

seven grandchildren, Justin Robinson, Alisha Robinson, Andy Holtzapfel, Ryan Morgan, Abygail Morgan, Jamie Rodgers and Nick Rodgers; niece, Kelli and Chris Fuhr of Ironton; nephew, Kevin Wells of Columbus; niece, Melinda McCoy and Tony of Franklin Furnace; nephew, Danny and Christy Morgan of Coal Grove; niece, Joyce and Danny Baker of Indianapolis; nephew, Randy and Marie Abbott of Indianapolis; nephew, Matthew Morgan of Coal Grove; niece, Jessica Morgan of Coal Grove; and special friend and caregiver, Sue Black.
