Chesy tops SP in first girls’ OVC soccer game

CHESAPEAKE — It was Ladies’ Night.

For the first time in Ohio Valley Conference history, two girls’ soccer teams played as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers beat the first-year South Point Lady Pointers 3-0 Wednesday.

Chesapeake — in its third season — used two goals by Alyssa Arthur and one by Jackie Nelson to beat the Lady Pointers.

Goalkeeper Jillian Ellis had 12 saves for the first-ever shutout by a Lady Panthers’ goalie.

South Point goalie Alexandria Ross-Aaron had 16 saves.

Earlier in the week, Chesapeake tied Greenup County 4-4 despite a hat trick byCarly MacFarland. Arthur had the other goal and Nelson registered two assists.

The Lady Panthers’ only loss was 2-1 to Spring Valley. Abby Smith scored Spring Valley’s goals while Sydnee Hall got Chesapeake’s goal.

Chesapeake plays at Lincoln County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
