George Kelley

George H. Kelley, 81, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at his residence. The Pedro native was born July 10, 1931, a son to the late John K. and Rosa (Loper) Kelley. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Dalton) Kelley. George was a graduate of Pedro High School, Ashland Business College and International Correspondence School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex CVA 9. He earned several campaign ribbons and the Good Conduct ribbon. He was a retired systems analyst for 35 years from Armco Steel. He was a Christian having been saved July 22, 1992. George also volunteered at KDMC, Same Day Surgery, since 1992. In his early years he loved to play baseball and hunt. He loved helping people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several sisters. In addition to his wife, He is survived by a sister, Garnet Addis of Ironton and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Mamre Cemetery with graveside rights conducted by VFW Post #8850. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Alberta Lynn Williams-Tompkins, 51, of Flatwoods, Ky., died at home on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. She was the wife of David W. Tompkins. There will be no services at this time.
