Howard Layne

Howard Franklin “Gid” Layne, 86, of Ironton, formerly of Kitts Hill, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at a local health care facility. The Pedro native was born Sept. 27, 1926, a son of the late William S. and Minnie Reaper Layne.

He is survived by his wife Rita Gay Kelley Layne of Ironton whom he married Nov. 30, 1956. Gid was a 1945 graduate of Pedro High School and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He worked 14 years for Alpha Portland Cement Solvey and retired in 1989 as an electrician for the C & O Railroad car shops in Huntington, W.Va. He was a longtime member of Woodland Chapel Church and Freedom Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Layne and Hazel Bailey and four brothers, Millard, Ray, Earl and Homer Layne. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Andrew Howard Layne of Ironton; his grandson, Cory Andrew Layne of Ironton; and a brother, Bill Layne of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.  Daniel Gorman

Daniel C. Gorman, 87, of Franklin Furnace died on Sunday Oct. 28, 2012 at Jo-Lin Health Center. He was born July 29, 1925, to the late Malone and Veronica Galliagher Gorman. He was the husband of Jo Ann Ford Gorman. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was retired from the National Defense Department, the Pentagon, Washington D.C. He was a Navy auditor and accountant. He was a member of St. Lawrence Church Ironton, a life member of the Ironton Elks 177, and a member of the American Legion A. Ruger Post 273 Madeira Beach, Fla. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann and sister-in-law Ginger Day, and many other family members and friends. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Visitation will be Thursday O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

 

Pat Haney

Pat Haney, 92 of Ironton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at her home in Ironton with her family gathered around her.

The Hanging Rock native was born Jan. 9, 1920, the daughter of the late George K. and Talitha Lakin. Pat was married to William F. Haney on Sept. 23, 1939. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2005. Also preceding her in death was her brother, George Lakin, Jr.Pat was a 1938 graduate of Hanging Rock High School and a longtime member of Zoar Baptist Church in Coal Grove. Survivors include a son, Bill (Rita) Haney of Pedro; a daughter, Jenny Halleck of Ironton; two grandsons, Lance Haney and Tim Boyle; one great grandson, Brandon Haney; one sister-in-law, Rosie Haney of Coal Grove and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Beals and Dr. Kevin Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Lance Haney, Tim Boyle, Brandon Haney, Bill Haney, and John Langley. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the New Life Children’s Home, Lima, Peru c/o Bill Haney, Zoar Baptist Church, 1009 Marion Pike, Ironton, OH 45638.

 

 Paul Lovely

Paul David Lovely, 45, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.

The Ironton native was born March 18, 1967, the son of Chalmer Lovely of Galion and Judy Pauley Lovely Myers of Kitts Hill. Paul was a graduate of Lexington, Ohio, High School and Ashland College with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and finance. He was a regional sales manager for Caterpillar Equipment for seven years and attended the First English Lutheran Church in Mansfield. Paul is survived by a son, Joshua Paul Lovely of Mansfield; a brother, Mark Allan Lovely of Columbus; a stepfather, Charles Kenneth Myers of Kitts Hill; a stepsister, Margie Hylton of Ashland, Ky.; and stepbrother, Charles K. Myers, Jr. of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, with Chaplain Mark Lovely officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Emma Mae Willis McComas, 84, of South Point, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Pastor Rock Dearfield officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Ridge Cemetery, Kitts Hill.
