Roy Huff

Roy “Rick” Zeno Huff, 78, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Ky. The Boyd County, Ky., native was born April 11, 1934, the son of the late Russell Theodore and Lenora Kathleen Hall Huff. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Owens Huff of Ironton. Rick was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a former supervisor for National Mines Service for 21 years.

He was a member of the Oakland Chapel Church in Catlettsburg, Ky., where he was saved and baptized and attended Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church in Coal Grove for the past 15 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Walker. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sisters: Joyce Cobern of Catlettsburg, Avis Wilson of Columbus, Linda Bell, Barbara and Ralph Black, all of Catlettsburg, and Ruth and Phillip Dials of Louisa, Ky.; five brothers, Ronald and Mollie Huff, Glen and Mary Huff, David and Betty Huff, Gene and Pauline Huff, Paul and Libby Huff, all of Catlettsburg; two grandchildren, Jody Walker and Steven Ernest Walker; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Pierce and Rev. Eddie Neel officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ernie Walker, Phillip Dials, Steve Martin, Paul Huff, Gene Huff, and Harold Bunk Harper. Pat Haney

Pat Haney, 92 of Ironton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at her home in Ironton with her family gathered around her. The Hanging Rock native was born Jan. 9, 1920, the daughter of the late George K. and Talitha Lakin. Pat was married to William F. Haney on Sept. 23, 1939.

He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2005. Also preceding her in death was her brother, George Lakin, Jr. Pat was a 1938 graduate of Hanging Rock High School and a long time member of Zoar Baptist Church in Coal Grove. Survivors include a son, Bill (Rita) Haney of Pedro; a daughter, Jenny Halleck of Ironton; two grandsons, Lance Haney and Tim Boyle; one great grandson, Brandon Haney; one sister-in-law, Rosie Haney of Coal Grove and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Beals and Dr. Kevin Willis officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation was two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Lance Haney, Tim Boyle, Brandon Haney, Bill Haney, and John Langley.  Charles Sloas

Charles Elwood Sloas, 86, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012.

Funeral services will be at the Flatwoods First Baptist Church, 1206 Bluegrass St., Flatwoods on Friday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods and one hour prior to service time at the church.

 Dennis Christian

Dennis W. Christian, 74 of South Point, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at River’s Bend Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Pastor Jack Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow at Linnville Cemetery. Dennis was born on Greasy Ridge, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Roscoe Christian and Arzenia Capper Christian. He attended the Lorain Street Mission in Ironton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Smith; an infant daughter; and four brothers, Cloyd, Lee, Garland and David Christian.

He is survived by his companion and caregiver, Mary Rutherford; three daughters, Tammy Rowe, Brenda Grimmett and Teressa Harrison; three sisters, Betty Caudill, Nancy Velardocchia and Evelyn Giles; one brother, Jerry Christian; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.  Robert Howard

Robert Eugene “Jack” Howard, 77 of Argillite, Ky., died at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at the Argillite Church of Nazarene on State Route 1.

 John Gilpin

John R. Gilpin Jr., 83, of Trinity Station, Flatwoods Ky., formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday Oct. 31, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home by Pastor John Rule and Pastor Jeff Black. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Oscar Martinez

Oscar Alberto Martinez, 63, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, with his family at his side.

He was born Nov. 3, 1948, in San Salvador Jujuy, Argentina, to the late Felisa Alba de Martinez and Rene Martinez. He came to the United States in 1966, and settled in Tallahassee in 1971, where he retired from the State of Florida as an administrator. He was a faithful member at Fellowship Baptist Church, where he loved being involved with church activities.

He was involved with FAVACA, the Man to Man Support Group with the American Cancer Society and a volunteer with the Leon County Health Department.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Stephanie P. Martinez; son and daughter-in-law, Al and Nevada Martinez; grandchildren, Joaquin and Isabel; siblings, Maria Elena, Roberto, Ricardo; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Celebration of Life is 1 p.m. Friday at Fellowship Baptist Church, with interment following at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 Donald Neville

Donald “Rich” Richard Neville, 68, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Sept. 16, 1944, the son of Fred “Red” Neville, Jr. of Ironton and the late Margaret Jane “Margie” Harmon Neville. He is also survived by his wife, Dreama Sue Spears Neville. Rich attended Coal Grove High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a former equipment operator for the Perry Township Trustees and a founding member of the Tri-City Cycle Club. He was saved and baptized at the Community Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Fred Sr. and Birdie Blankenship Neville; and maternal grandparents, Edward and Dora Hilgenberg Harmon.

In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Ryan (Stacy Lyn Haas) Neville of Deering; a sister, Lois Jean (David) Haas of Coschocton; a brother, Daniel (Jeanie) Neville of Deering; two sisters-in-law, Tina Holbrook and Cindy Cooper both of Deering; a brother-in-law, Ronald Spears of Deering; special niece and nephews, Andrew Doss, Kylee Spears, and Christian Holbrook all of Deering; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery and visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Virginia Frische

Virginia L. Frische, 90, of Castalia, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Stein Hospice Care Center. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ransom Funeral Home, Castalia, with visitation at noon until service. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery on Saturday at 11 a.m.

 

 Ellen Chafin

Ellen A. Chafin, 84, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at home. She was the wife of George S. Chafin, who survives. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home. Visitation is from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home.

Delores Downey, 76, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

Woodrow Church, 94, died on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley Nursing Home. Arrangements are pending at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.
