Kathy Massie

Kathy Ann Thacker Massie, 59, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, in the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. She was born Jan. 26, 1953, in Ironton, daughter of the late Wilbur Franklin Thacker and the late Alta Eva Thacker and Ruby Thacker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Ray Thacker. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Willie Eugene Massie, whom she married Aug. 21, 1969; five loving daughters, Angela (Brady) Marcum, Eva (Johnny) Ison, Florence (Kenny) Soderberg, Willie (Charlie) Dickess, Brittany (Jonathon) Rayburn; 10 grandchildren, Tiffani (Nathan) Turley, Cody Nance, Brianna Marcum (Lonnie), Kathy (Joey), Frankie, Evan Soderberg, Courtney, Dustin, Addy and Xavier Rayburn; one great-grandchild, Khloe Turley; six siblings, Wilbur Franklin Thacker Jr., Gary Franklin Thacker, Henry (Garnet) Thacker, Mary (Eddie) Holback, Connie Hardin and her sister Elsie Tussey, who was helping take care of her to the very end; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary Massie, Oryln and Kathy Massie, Donald and Donna Massie, Mary and Walter Howard, Kathy Giles, Barbara and Steve Stephens.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Wilgus, by Pastor Lovus Brewer. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Pete Chaffins

Pete Delano Chaffins, 75, of Kitts Hill, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 ,at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Knott County, Ky., native was born March 1, 1937, the son of the late Pete and Dolly Conley Chaffins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy C. Kerns Chaffins.

Pete was a 1955 graduate of Decatur-Washington High School and attended the University of Rio Grande for 2 1/2 years. He was a former truck driver for Collins Mining and Schwerman Trucking, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Decatur Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula Dalton of Pedro and Pam Payne of Ironton; four grandchildren, Adam Dalton, Tonya Dalton, Mrs. Andrew (Tashina) Carper and Trevor McFann; one great-grandchild, Wade Carper; and two sisters, Billie Earl Hayes of Fairborn and Minnie Delaney of Beaver Creek.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The Rev. Larry David Hackworth, 61, of Ironton, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

Donald Jenkins, 85, of Ironton, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

Nancy L. Bowman, 65, of Gahanna, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012. Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E.
