WILLOW WOOD — If the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ defense was a pressure cooker, their opponent must have been well done.

The Lady Vikings used a strong defensive effort and a balanced offense to rout the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 65-26 Monday in the season opener.

“The girls did a good job pressuring the ball,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker. “We got to show a little depth. All 12 girls played and all 12 contributed.”

Kayle Hayes scored 14 points and Kalli Hunt had 10 points to lead the Lady Vikings. Merrana Hayes added 8 points.

Kayla Hayes scored all 14 of her points in the first half and Hunt scored 9 of her 10 points as the Lady Vikings built a 38-9 lead at the break.

Elly Fulks got 5 points in the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 59-19.

Merranda Hayes scored all 6 points for the Lady Vikings in the fourth quarter.

Symmes Valley plays at Portsmouth Clay Thursday in a league game.
