Helen Brown

Dec. 19, 1946-Dec. 8, 2012

 Helen Pearl Ross Brown, 65, of Waterloo, went home to be with the Lord Saturday Dec. 8, 2012, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. The Lawrence County native was born Dec. 19, 1946, the daughter of the late Earl Edmond and Mildred Frances White Ross. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Phillip Stephen Brown whom she married Feb. 20, 1967.

Helen was a 1964 graduate of Symmes Valley High School and a member of the Myrtle Tree Missionary Baptist Church. She was a former shipping clerk for UPS in Huntington, W.Va., and was the former owner and operator of the County Line Restaurant in Waterloo for several years. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother and her family meant everything to her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother; Jeryl Lee Ross.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steven Dean and Kara Brown of Waterloo; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Darin and Jami Brown of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Corey, Stephanie and Kyler Brown all of Waterloo brother and sister-in-law, David and Evelyn Ross of Patriot; brother, Dale Ross of Arabia; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Donna Ross of Coal Grove; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Greg Brown of Waterloo; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sheila Ross of Patriot; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Ross of Zanesville; brother, Steve Ross of Zanesville; brother and sister-in-law, Timmy and Madeline Ross of Ironton; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Robert Johnson of Point Pleasant, W.Va.; brother, Tony Ross of Patriot; and sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Mark Staats of Point Pleasant.

Mildred Thompson

Feb. 23, 1937-Dec. 8, 2012

Mildred June Thompson, 75, of Ironton passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 23, 1937, the daughter of the late Ernest and Bessie Barnett Butler. She was the widow of Tom R. Thompson.

Mildred was a graduate of Ironton High School. She was a homemaker and previously attended Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton. She loved playing bingo and fishing. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Marie Thompson and Barbara Rose Jarvis; and three sisters, Bessie Louis Jarrett, Ernestine Cronin and Flora Klaiber. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and James Kelley of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Connie Sue and Ted Cox of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and James Robinette of Ashland, Ky. daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Larry Ray Marcum of Ironton; son and his fiancée, Robert Thompson and Lisa Steele of Wheelersburg; son, Thomas Thompson of Ironton; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip Gene and Pauline Butler of Deering; brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Martha Butler of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Patricia Butler of Ironton; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor Vicki Bays officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Jerry Sexton

Jerry D. Sexton, 59, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. He was the husband of Debbie Sexton, who survives. A memorial service will be 5 p.m. today at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Elders of New Covenant Church and Brian Sexton officiating. Jimmy Buchanan

Jimmy Lee Buchanan, 68, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He was the husband of Beverly Buchanan, who survives. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Flossie Doolin

Flossie Doolin, 92, of Ironton, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at a local health care center. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

Hellie Allene Canterbury Toney, 89, of South Point, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point, Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home with Wayne McDonald officiating.
