Shirley Dement
Shirley Irene Kelly Dement of Ironton died on Sunday Feb. 17, 2013 at Jo- Lin Health Center. She was born Nov. 25, 1926, the daughter of Fred and Bertha Jenkins Stamper II in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband Alvay Kelley and her second husband, John Dement. She was also preceded by seven brothers.
Survivors include one brother Tom (Daisy) Stamper of Franklin Furnace; two sisters, Verna (Pat) Schilling Ironton and Betty Harmon of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. A 1:30 p.m. graveside service will follow the visitation in Woodland Cemetery with officiating Jamie Pancake.
Franklin Conley
Franklin Conley, 66, of Ironton, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Ironton native was born Oct. 19, 1946, the son of the late Earl Matthew and Ethel Mae Davisson Conley. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Wiley Conley, whom he married Nov. 22, 1968.
Mr. Conley was a 1965 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and a 1992 graduate of Ohio University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. In 1965, he joined the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam. He was a lab analyst for Ironton Iron and a teacher for the Open Door School and Dawson-Bryant School District. He was of the Wesleyan Holiness faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Conley.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Angie Conley of Ironton, Kimberly Eades (Tim) of Circleville, Betsy Cox (Scott) of Pedro, Jennifer Runals (Mark) and Julie Childers (Wes), all of Hilliard; a son, Ryan Conley of Ironton; three brothers, Fred Conley, Earl Conley Jr.,both of Ironton, and David Conley of Coal Grove; a sister, Mary Ann Conley of Ironton; 17 grandchildren, Matthew, Richard, Jared, Justin, Kristian, Cody, Kassidi, Grace, Hannah, Sydnee, Devin, Alison, Alex, Madison, Lauren, Maggie, and Drew; and one great grandchild, Jada.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Tim Eades officiating with the body to lie in state one hour prior to the services. James Shope
James E. Shope, 88, of Ironton, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Arraignments are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.
Davis Malone
Davis Eugene Malone, 82, of Catlettsburg, Ky., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Lawrence county native was born Aug. 11, 1930, a son to the late Floyd and Virginia (Rucker) Malone. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Blanche Malone, whom he married Dec. 16, 1972.
Mr. Malone was a veteran of the Korean conflict and was owner and operator of the Marting Hotel in Ironton and other various establishments in Ironton. He was a member of the Catlettsburg Church of the Nazarene in Catlettsburg, Ky.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two infant children; a brother, Kenneth Malone; and a brother-in-law, David Willis.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Davis L. Malone Jr. of Winter Haven, Fla. and Eric Boyd of Kitts Hill; four daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and Scott Price of Winter Haven, Fla., Jackie Hall of Ashland, Ky., Paula Visconti of Philadelphia, Pa., and Tracy Boyd of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a grandson who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy, Robert Ryan and Jen Wylie of Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Emily Malone of Bradenton, Fla.; a grandson, Cody Sheridan of Catlettsburg, Ky.; two great grandchildren, Kia and Chandler Wylie of Jacksonville, Fla.; six additional grandchildren; six additional great grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth Ann Willis of Kingswood, Texas and Mary Ellen and Gary Nichols of Coal Grove.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor James Webster officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. At the family’s request, donations can be made to the building fund of Catlettsburg Church of the Nazerene. Gladys Keeney
Gladys I. Keeney, 101, of South Point died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at her home. She was the widow of Wilbur Keeney. Arrangements are pending at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home.
Myrtle Rister
Myrtle M. Rister, 86, of Worthington, Ky., died Feb. 16, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky. Burial will be in the Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup, Ky.
Mary Kay
Mary A. Kay, 79, of South Point died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at Heartland of Riverview in South Point. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
