County tax deadline this Friday

Friday is the deadline for the first half tax collection for Lawrence County property owners.

Those paying by mail must have it postmarked by Friday.

“Make sure the post office picks up the mail and is not lying in your mailbox,” Lawrence County Treasurer Stephen Burcham said.

Through Monday the treasurer’s office has collected $10.87 million. Total first half collection last year brought in $16.3 million.

“We appear to be on track,” Burcham said. “We are just now getting in the escrows from the banks for some of our large mortgage companies. We should meet or exceed last year’s collection.”

KDMC mobile mammography unit to visit Ironton

ASHLAND, Ky. — The American Cancer Society recommends women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram each year. Screening mammograms help detect breast cancer early, when it is most treatable.

To help women meet this goal, King’s Daughters Mobile Mammography Unit travels throughout the region performing mammograms. The mobile mammography unit will visit King’s Daughters Family Care Center – Ironton, 912 Park Ave., on Wednesday, March 20.

Screening mammograms do not require a physician order, but an appointment is necessary. To schedule, please call King’s Daughters Centralized Scheduling at (606) 408-2742 or toll free 1-877-304-1935.

All tests are performed by specially trained mammography technologists using digital equipment, which results in less radiation exposure.

Many insurance companies cover the entire cost of mammography; check with your insurance provider.
