Eltha Naditz

Eltha Rose Naditz, 86, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Sunset Nursing Center in Coal Grove. The Deering native was born Jan. 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Ora and Maude Crabtree Gannon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Barnard Naditz.

Rose attended Ironton High School and Dawson-Bryant High School. She was a homemaker, owner/operator of Rose’s Pizza in Coal Grove and a former nurse’s aide at Lawrence County General Hospital. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church and a quilt maker.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ronald Clayton; and two sisters, Bertie Webb and Jane White.

She is survived by four sons, Brandy and Marsha Clark of Deering, Kevin Clark of Columbus, Pepper Clark of Titusville, Fla. and Matthew Clark of Merritt Island, Fla.; a daughter, Kim Clayton of Deering; five grandchildren, Angie Haynes, Carrie Jo Clutters, Mattie Gantt, Ronald Clayton, and Shelley Clark; and

10 great grandchildren

Thomas Slaughter

Thomas Edward Slaughter Sr., 53, of Coal Grove, passed Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.  The Gallipolis native was born March 10, 1959, the son of the late Marion and Louise Wilson Slaughter.  He is survived by his wife, Jackie Stewart Slaughter whom he married Aug. 6, 2004.

Tom attended Ironton High School and the Coal Grove Church of the Nazarene.  He was a former employee of Etna Building Maintenance Co. where he was the account manager for Marathon Oil.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brother, Danny Hall; sister, Lucy; and brother, Howard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Charles Wilson of Coal Grove; grandchildren, Blake Aaron Wilson and soon to be born Baylee Michelle Wilson;

brothers, Larry Wilson of Ironton, David Hall of Suffolk, Va., Max Haskins of Loveland, Colo., Billy Lemley of Phoenix, Ariz., Jim Gwynn of Plainwell, Mich., Tim Slaughter of South Shore, Ky., and Wayne Hall; and sisters, Patsy Wilson of Kernersville, N.C., and Shirley Petitt of California.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Tate officiating.  Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery.  Friends may call Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Laura Malone

Laura D. Malone, 52, of Coal Grove, went to be with her Lord Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Unity Baptist Church, Ashland, Ky. with Dr. Floyd Paris officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Laura was born Dec. 25, 1960, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Gene and Jane Eastham Forth of Coal Grove. She was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School, received an associate’s degree from Shawnee State Community College and was a Certified Public Accountant for Reynolds & Company, CPA in Portsmouth. Laura is also survived by her husband, John E. Malone; one son, John Scott (Tammy) Malone of Catlettsburg, Ky.; one brother Rick (Angela) Forth of Chesapeake; one grandchild, Cameron Malone; three nieces, Natasha (Brad) Swartz, Amanda and Alyssa Forth; and one great niece, Layla Swartz. Billy Eugene Rood, 73, of Proctorville, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. He was the husband of Billy Eugene Rood, who survives. William Hysell

William Wallace Hysell Jr., 88, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home. Alfred Horan

Alfred Manning Horan, 78, of South Point, Ohio passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Hospice of Huntington.  The Logan, W.Va., native was born Aug. 13, 1934, a son to the late, Alfred Manning McCormick and Helen Reed Horan.  Alfred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Adarene (Bartram) Horan.

Alfred graduated from Huntington East High School.  He went on to serve and retire from the United States Navy after 20 years of service and activity duty in the Vietnam War.  He also retired after 22 years as an employee of Marshall University.  He was a life member of the VFW Post #8850 and was a member of the United States Navy Fleet Reserve.

In addition to his wife, Alfred is survived by a daughter, Monica Horan of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Michael Horan of South Point and Timothy Horan of Huntington, W.Va.; a sister, Joan Shepherd of Huntington; five grandsons, Matthew Ryan Horan of South Point; Timothy Horan Roy and James Horan Roy of McHenry, Ill., Jacob Hender of Lexington, Ky., and Kayden Horan of Huntington; two granddaughters, Monica Nicole Werkhieser of South Point and Rachel Hender of Lexington; one great grandson, Gavin Horan of South Point; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Alfred is preceded in death by two brothers, John Horan and Tom Horan; a sister, Lois Stacy; and a grandson, Michael Brandon Horan.
