The St. Joseph Flyers have put together a double-double.

The Flyers banged out double digit hits in each of their first two games, a 12-2 six-inning win over the Elliott County Lions on Monday and a 13-2 five-inning win over the New Boston Tigers on Tuesday.

St. Joseph had 10 hits against the Lions and 13 more against New Boston.

“We’ve hit the ball pretty well our first two games. I really wasn’t expecting us to hit that well, at least this early in the season. I’ve been pleased so far,” said Flyers’ coach Brent Wirzfeld.

Justin Mahlmeister was 3-4 and Bryson Adkins and Eli Lewis 2-3 to lead the win over New Boston. Trey Young, Chris Lewis, Eli Lewis, Cole Willis and Mahlmeister all had doubles.

The Tigers went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning but the Flyers scored three in the bottom of the inning.

Mahlmeister singled, Willis doubled and Adkins had an RBI single. Grant Geswein walked to force in a run and Chris Lewis singled in the final run.

St. Joseph (2-0) erupted for seven runs in the second inning.

Hunter Pemberton singled, Joseph Payton walked and Mahlmeister had a two-run double. Willis and Adkins had RBI singles, Chris Lewis an RBI double and Young and Eli Lewis run-scoring singles.

The Lions pushed across a run in the third but the Flyers got three more in the fourth.

Young doubled, Pemberton was safe on an error as the run scored, Payton walked and Mahlmeister belted a two-run double.

On Monday, Mahlmeister picked up a complete game win and went 2-5 at the plate. He struck out nine, walked one and gave up six hits.

“After the first inning, Justin pretty much dominated them,” said Wirzfeld.

Pemberton and Joseph Payton were 2-3 as the Flyers scored two runs in each inning.

The Flyers host Sciotoville East on Thursday and visit Fairview, Ky., on Friday.
