The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were playing a game of give-and-take.

First, the Lady Tigers took the lead, then tried to give the game away before holding on to beat the Fairview Lady Eagles 7-6 on Thursday.

Ironton built a 7-0 lead but let the Lady Eagles back in the game with aid of six errors.

“We will take the win any way we can, but we certainly tried to give it away tonight. We were rusty in the field with lots of work to do,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

Ironton (1-1) had seven hits led by Rebekkah Potter who went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in. Karlee McMackin and Meghan Taylor also went 2-3 and Ariel Whitt was 1-3.

Kassey Carmon went the first four innings to get the win. Kylie Metzger came on to work the final three innings and struck out the side in the seventh inning to secure the save.

“We really struggled at the plate tonight with 11 strikeouts. I give credit to their pitcher who pitched a nice game and really threw us off with the change-up pitch,” said Fields.

“I was pleased with both (Ironton) pitchers tonight. All six runs were unearned, Kylie Metzger has really improved since last season.”

Ironton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Potter singled, stole second and came home when Andi Kratzenberg reached on an error.

The Lady Tigers made it 5-0 in the second inning.

McMackin singled, moved up on a ground out, stole third and scored on Taylor’s base hit. Taylor Monk reached on a fielder’s choice, Saige Fields walked and Potter cleared the bases with he double.

Two more runs scored in the third inning. McMackin and Taylor singled and Fields was safe on an error.

Fairview (2-3) also had seven hits with Madison Kirk going 2-4.

Ironton visits Ashland, Ky., at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
