Fletcher, Carter, LaFon in Ohio-Kentucky game

When the stars come out, look for the Ironton constellation.

The 22nd Russell Athletic Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Basketball Game will be Saturday at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., and the Fighting Tigers will be well represented.

Selected to play in the game are 6-foot-5 senior forward Trey Fletcher and 5-9 senior guard Zac Carter. Ironton head coach Mark LaFon will serve as one of two assistant coaches.

The girls’ game is at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 7:30.

Carter — Ironton’s all-time scoring leader — was the Southeast District Player of the Year and a first team All-Ohio selection. He was also voted the Ohio National Guard JJHuddle boys’ Division III Player of the Year.

Carter averaged 24.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals a game while shooting 87 percent from the foul line, 48 percent from the field and 32 percent from the 3-point line.

Fletcher — first team All-District and third team All-Ohio — scored at a 20.5 clip with 7.2 rebounds a contest. He also shot 37 percent from the 3-point line and 55 percent overall from the floor.

Fletcher suprassed the 1,000-career point total.

LaFon was named Coach of the Year by the Associated Press Southeast District sports writers, the District 13 coaches and the Division III state Coach of the Year by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association as Ironton went 23-3 and reached the state tournament.

The Ohio head coach is Tony Bisutti of Dublin Scioto. Tom Petty of Bloom-Carroll will be the other assistant.
