AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings are a young team and they are learning.

They learned a lesson in winning on Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Payne and Stephanie Brown combined on a two-hitter as the Lady Vikings beat the Western Lady Indians 6-1 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“The girls played well,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “They’re going through some growing pains, but they’re working hard and getting better.”

Symmes Valley (3-4, 2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brown singled and came around on a passed ball and two wild pitches.

The Lady Vikings got a run in the third to make it 2-0.

Tiara Hatfield walked, Hannah Maynard hit into a fielder’s choice and Chianne Hively had an RBI single.

Symmes Valley opened up a 6-0 lead with four runs in the sixth.

With one out Kassidi Cox walked, Brown was safe on a fielder’s choice and Autumn Keathley singled to load the bases.

Payne tripled to clear the bases and then scored when Hatfield hit into a fielder’s choice.

Payne was 2-3 as the Lady Vikings had five hits.

Symmes Vally plays at Portsmouth Clay on Thrusday.
