Pointers cruise to 12-1 win over PND in 5 innings

PORTSMOUTH — The South Point Pointers were in a hurry.

The Pointers made quick work of the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans as they breezed to a 12-1 win in five innings on Tuesday in a non-league game.

Larry Brandon got the win with a three-hitter. He struck out six and walked three in five innings of work.

The Pointers (3-2) racked up 13 hits led by Brandon Boggs who was 2-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Alex Whitt who went 4-4 with two doubles.

South Point took a 5-0 lead in the first inning key by Josh Browning’s three-run double. Austin Majher also singled in a run.

The lead went to 8-0 in the second inning as Whitt doubled and Boggs hit a two-run homer. Majher had another RBI single in the rally.

Singles by Whitt, Boggs and Brandon, an error and Browning’s sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 10-0 in the third.

The Pointers got their final two runs in the fourth inning.

Jesse Lien singled in a run and a double by Whitt and a throwing error scored the second run.

Browning went 2-3 with four RBIs. Majher was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and Lien went 2-4 with a run batted in.

The Pointers play at Rock Hill on Wednesday needing a win to grab a share of the lead in the Ohio Valley Conference.
