To error is human, but there was nothing humane about this game.
The St. Joseph Flyers were guilty of nine errors that led to nine unearned runs in an 11-1 loss to the Raceland Rams on Tuesday.
“They’re a good team, but we didn’t come ready to play,” said Flyers’ coach Brent Wirzfeld.
The Rams (10-6) led 1-0 after two innings before scoring eight runs in the third to lead 9-0.
Justin Mahlmeister took the loss for the Flyers (5-3). He worked three innings and gave up nine runs, all unearned. He struck out four and walked two.
Mahlmeister also went 2-2 at the plate. He accounted for the Flyers’ run when he doubled in the third, stole third base and scored on Cole Willis’ ground out.
