CHESAPEAKE — Each team had five hits, but since walks are as good as a hit, the Chesapeake Panthers had the advantage.

The Panthers combined five hits with five walks to slip past the River Valley Raiders 2-1 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Blake Lester pitched a five-hitter for the Panthers. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk.

Nick Jeffers took the loss as he gave up five hits, struck out seven but walked five.

River Valley got four his in the top of the second inning, but the first baserunner was picked off for an out.

Dan Goodrich, Joseph Loyd and Timmy Kemper all singled for the run.

Chesapeake tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single by Brett Curry and three walks.

The Panthers got the winning run in the fourth inning when Jacob Henson doubled and scored on an outfield error.
