PROCTORVILLE — Chandler Fulks may have been sick, but it was the opposing batters who didn’t feel well.

Despite an upset stomach, Chandler Fulks pitched the Fairland Lady Dragons past the Rock Hill Redwomen 4-1 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Fairland (18-7) finishes 8-2 in the OVC and needs South Point to lose to Coal Grove in order to share the league title.

Fulks gave up five hits, struck out 13, walked two and hit a batter.

“Chandler threw the ball pretty well. She was sick before the game, but she worked through it,” said Fairland coach Joe Auxier. “Our defense was pretty solid other than one play.”

Fairland snapped a scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning.

Chloe Stanley walked and Molly Morris reached on a fielder’s choice. Fulks singled to load the bases and Haley Woodall doubled to right-center two score a pair. Chelsey Stanley bunted for a hit as the third run scored.

Rock Hill (14-9, 6-4) got its only run in the sixth inning when Kenzi Martin doubled and Kaelynn Ellis singled.

Fairland got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Morris walked, stole second and third, and came home on a dropped fly ball.

On Friday, Fairland hosts River Valley and Rock Hill entertains Portsmouth in sectional tournament games.
