OAK HILL — There were only a handful of finals in the Division III district track meet on Wednesday, but the Coal Grove Hornets and Lady Hornets took advantage of the situation.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the regional track meet next week at Lancaster Fairfield Union High School.

Austen “Red” Pleasants led the Hornets as he won the discus with a toss of 134-1 to qualify for the regional.

The Hornets’ quartet of Tyler Waddle, Jonathon Joseph, Brandon Adkins and Paul Brisson ran a 9:03.64 time to place fourth and earn a trip to the regional meet.

The Hornets’ Ian McFarland was seventh in the pole vault as he cleared 10-feet.

In the girls’ 4×800-meter relay Coal Grove was third as Leslie Mulkey, Tori Holmes, Bethany Moore and Ashley Adkins had a time of 11:00.62.

The Lady Hornets’ Darrien Hankins was seventh in the shot put with a 28-8.5 heave.

The remaining final events will be held Saturday at Oak Hill High School.
