Amzel Darby

Nov. 22, 1983 — May 28, 2013

Amzel Geneva Darby, 29, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Gallipolis native was born Nov. 22, 1983, a daughter of Marvin G. Miller of Waterloo, and Margaret Stanley Avery of Ironton.

Miss Darby attended Symmes Valley High School and Collins Career Center majoring in criminal justice. She was the General Manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Ironton.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jemima and Vernon Stanley; paternal grandparents, Amzel and Charles Miller; uncles, Ralph and Vonley Stanley; and step-father, Gene Avery.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by daughter, Alexdria Shay Hale of Meigs County; son, Damien Michael Hale of Meigs County; daughter, Anna Belle Darby of Ironton; daughter, Amzel Fayth Brumfield of Oklahoma; son, Devyn Gage McClain of Ironton; brother, Jeffery Allen Miller of Meigs County; brother, Nathaniel Gray Wolf of Waterloo; sister, Rebecca Victoria Johnson of Ironton; brother, Vernon Edsel Miller of Daytona Beach, Fla.; brother, John Gary Miller of Daytona Beach; brother, William Todd Miller of Ironton; brother, Charles Edward Bundy III of Ironton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at the residence of her mother, Margaret Avery, with Pastor Terry Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery after the service. To offer condolences please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Joyce Meadows

July 21, 1936 — May 31, 2013

Joyce A. Goad Meadows, 76, of Pedro, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at Jo-Lin Health Care Center in Ironton. The Ironton native was born July 21, 1936, the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Brown Goad. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Meadows, who passed away Sept. 9, 1999.

Mrs. Meadows attended Pedro Schools and was a member of the Cannon’s Creek E.U.B. Church in Pedro. She was also a homemaker.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Meadows.

She is survived by cousins, Judy and Ed Sturgill of Ironton, Brian, Barb and Brandon Sturgill of Kitts Hill, Larry Blankenship of Ironton, and Herman Crutchfield of Springfield.

James B. Collier Jr. (J.B.), 68, of Pedro, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at his residence. Arragements are pending with Phillips Funeral Home.

Gloria Jean Eskew, 69, of Huntington, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House of Huntington. She is survived by her husband, Frazier Eskew Jr. Per her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville.

 

 

James Chachos

James Mark Chachos, 91, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Jo-Lin Health Center, Ironton. He is survived by his wife, Kay. E. Chachos. Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

 

 

Kenneth Hampton

Kenneth Hampton, 46, of Hanging Rock, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at a Cleveland-area hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.

Cleo Garthee, 85, of Greenup, Ky., died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Carman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.

 

 

Nieda McCallister

Nieda Lee Vickers Preston McCallister, 73, of Westwood, Ky., died Thursday, May 30, 2013. She was survived by her husband, Ray “Spot” McCallister. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at South Ashland United Methodist Church with pastors Lance Campbell, Mike Rice and Larry Vickers officiating. Interment will follow in the Richmond Cemetery, Paintsville, Ky. Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Preston Family Funeral Home, Ashland. David James Stemac, 59, of Huntington, W.Va., died Friday, May 31, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville.
