THE PLAINS — The season got a little longer for some local track standouts.

Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ freshman hurdler Atiya Spaulding and Fairland Dragons’ senior distance runner Raine Wireman will add next weekend’s state track meet to their schedule.

Wireman ran a 4:26.95 to win the 1600-meter run at Saturday’s Division II regional meet and qualified for the state meet.

The top four finishers in the regional meet advance to the state meet to be held Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens’ Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Wireman is also a member of the Dragons’ 4×800 relay team that qualified on Thursday. Logan Rowe, Taylor Lewis and Josh Sifford teamed with Wireman to finish fourth.

Wireman was fifth in the 800 meters with a 1:59.81 time.

Spaulding finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a 47.53 time to reach the state meet. She will join teammate Jordan Porter who qualified in the shot put on Thursday.

Rowe was sixth in the 3200 meters with a 10:20.32 clocking South Point’s Brady Sloan was seventh in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, one-inch.

Fairland Lady Dragons’ Jessica Price finished in a four-way tie for sixth place in the pole vault as she cleared 8-6.
