Dessie Porter

Dessie Marie Porter, 89 of Ironton, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at The Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley, Ironton. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Jack Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. The Soldier, Ky., native was born Sept. 14, 1923, the daughter of the late Willie Elgin Duncan and Carrie Jarvis Duncan. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph Porter and son Leslie Adkins. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Hubert Duncan and Wilford Duncan of Ironton. She is survived by one son, Robert L. Brite of Ironton. She has two special cousins, Delores Greenhill and Linda Layne of Paintsville, Ky. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton. Macie Cunnington

Macie Cunningham, 90, of Kitts Hill, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Wayne, W.Va. native was born Dec. 12, 1922, the daughter of the late Marshall and Josephine Graham Spears. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Shirley Marshall, and second husband, James Cunningham.

Mrs. Cunningham attended school in Wayne, W.Va., and was a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved being outdoors. She loved all her family and they loved her and called her their angel. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Marvin Marshall and Nathan Marshall; three brothers, Clarence Spears, Clinton Spears, and Herman Spears; four sisters, Mary Bias, Hazel Dundas, Faye Walker and Clara Spears; and two great grandchildren, Sabrina Faye Almand and Ashley Holstein.

She is survived by two sons, Roger Dale and Mary Marshall of Coal Grove, and Ralph H. Marshall of Ironton; three daughters, Mary Jane and Darrell Holschuh of South Point, Barbara Ann and James Rice of Kitts Hill, and Linda Dianne and Wayne Burns of Athens; 23 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.

Rebecca Gannon

Rebecca Ann Gannon, 62, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born June 28, 1951, the daughter of the late Sam and Lela Addis Kerns.

Mrs. Gannon attended Rock Hill High School was a homemaker and a member of the Moose Lodge in Ironton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Kerns and David Kerns.

She is survived by a son, Brian K. and Becky Gannon of Ironton; a daughter, Shawn Roberts of Ironton; two sisters, Brenda and Randy McKee of Corinth, Texas, and Connie and Don Davis of Ironton; two brothers, Ron and Jan Kerns of Ironton and Gary and Rita Kerns of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Sue Kerns of Ironton; granddaughter, Megan Roberts of Ironton; and two grandsons, Cole Gannon and Evan Gannon, both of Ironton.

There will be a graveside service at a later date at the convenience of the family. Phillips Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Charles Martin

Charles A. Martin, 81, of Flatwoods, Ky., formerly of Lick Creek, Ky., died at his residence on Sunday, July 14, 2013.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Lick Creek Holiness Church in Lick Creek with Pastor Ray Sayers and Pastor Shane Cox. Entombment will be in Annie E. Young Cemetery in Shelbiana, Ky. Faye Fannin

Faye Pelfrey Fannin, 89, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was the wife of Bill Fannin, who survives. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Preston Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hammond and Pastor Lance Campbell. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Irene McComas

March 15, 1931-July 13, 2013

 

Irene McComas, 82, of South Point, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born March 15, 1931, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Otis Edgar and Cora Faulkner McComas. She was a former cook for Marshall University. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Charles, Carl, and Edgar McComas, Ethel Mann, Mary Chapman, and Darlene Rowe. Irene is survived by her two daughters, Diane Schneider and Joann Stephens; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Cantrell. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Burlington. James Bundy

James Emanuel Bundy, 83, of Coal Grove, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Nov. 22, 1929, the son of the late James Millard Bundy and Effie Akers Bundy.

Mr. Bundy was a United States Army veteran, Marksman Rifleman and received the Victory medal . He was a former truck driver for Henthorn’s Dry Cleaning and an active member of Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to hunt, fish, being outdoors and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Delawder; brothers, Charles Bundy and Wilson Bundy; and sisters, Ann Akers, Mary Akers and Mildred White.

He is survived by wife, Hazel Stewart Bundy of Coal Grove, whom he married June 8, 1959; son, Herb (Vicki) Delawder of Coal Grove; four daughters, Donna (Fred) Carey of Tallahassee, Fla., Nellie McClellan of Ironton, Patricia (Emerson) Childers of Otway and Loralee Jamison of Worthington, Ky.; brother, Cleve (Edna) Bundy of Ironton; grandchildren, Michael Delawder, James Harris, Schreena Drake, Fred Harris, Herbie Delawder, Tammy Sue McMahon, Timothy Carey, Shane Carey, Eric Moore, Kelli Moore, Chris Gibson, Shannon Gibson, Tracy Willis, Beth Ann Brumfield, Emily Jamison, Kyle Jamison, Charles Weston, Helen Corbin, Melissa Bowman, Kelli Perkins, Teresa Mollett, Kimberly Deborde, Jamie Ferguson, Crystal Hardy and Ashley Gabbrick; his special dog, Rowdy; and special caregiver, Mary Dillon of Ironton.

Graveside services will be noon today at Woodland Cemetery with Chaplain Dennis R. Tate officiating. Visitation will be today from 11 until 11:45 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.
