COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State will pay more than $3 million to Buffalo, San Diego State and Florida A&M to come to Ohio Stadium for games against the Buckeyes this fall.

Through a request from The Associated Press, Ohio State’s athletic department released figures that show it is paying Buffalo $1 million to be the opposition in the Aug. 31 opener, San Diego State $1.2 million to play in the game on Sept. 7 and FAMU, a Football Championship Subdivision opponent, $900,000 to come to Columbus for the game on Sept. 21.

The Buckeyes’ other non-conference game is at California on Sept. 14. Ohio State’s eight Big Ten games do not require a guaranteed contract.

Broxton to undergo

surgery; Cueto moved

CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati RHP Jonathan Broxton is expected to have surgery after he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.

The Reds also said they moved RHP Johnny Cueto to the 60-day disabled list to open a roster spot for right-hander Nick Christiani, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville.

Broxton left Wednesday’s 10-7 win over Arizona after facing two batters in the eighth inning. The appearance was his fifth since being activated on August 7 following almost two months on the disabled list with a strained right elbow.

Cueto is in his third DL stint this season with a strained muscle behind his right shoulder. He hasn’t pitched since June 28. Christiani is 6-5 with a 4.05 earned-run average and three saves in 47 games with Louisville this season. He has yet to make his major league debut.

Irish host Duke in first ACC game

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame will play its first Atlantic Coast Conference basketball game at home against Duke on Jan. 4.

The game will pit Irish coach Mike Brey against his former boss, Mike Krzyzewski, who was critical of the ACC’s decision to allow Notre Dame to join the league while staying independent in football. Brey was an assistant under Krzyzewski from 1987-95, helping the Blue Devils win a pair of national championships.

Other highlights from the schedule released Thursday include the first ACC road game against Georgia Tech on Jan. 11, a home game against North Carolina on Feb. 8 and a game at UNC on March 3.

The Irish will renew their rivalry against Boston College at home on Feb. 1.

Pitch breaks jaw of Braves’ OF Heyward

NEW YORK (AP) — Braves outfielder Jason Heyward sustained two jaw fractures when he was struck by a pitch and will undergo surgery on Thursday.

The Braves said that Heyward’s jaw has been stabilized, and he was to return to Atlanta on Wednesday night in advance of the operation. The team will announce how long Heyward will be sidelined after surgery is completed.

Heyward was beaned by a 90 mph fastball from New York Mets left-hander Jonathon Niese in the sixth inning of the Braves’ 4-1, 10-inning win on Wednesday. The impact made a loud noise, and the crowd groaned as Heyward crumpled to the ground.
