The unknown made the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ football field turf project a reality.
An anonymous donation of approximately $450,000 was made to the athletic department to help the turf project reach its goal. Part of the money will go to other athletic facilities as well such as a wooden basketball floor in the Conley Sports Center.
“The goal on this project is for us to be kicking off on turf when we play Ashland at home,” said Ironton athletic director Mark LaFon.
Ironton plays Ashland on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014.
Part of the funding for the turf project was tied to a $150,000 grant used for resurfacing of the track.
“This is a great opportunities to get our athletic facilities to match our academic facilities,” said LaFon referring to the new schools.
“The money people donated to the turf fund will go to the turf. That’s the first thing we’re going to do.”
