IHS Class of ‘58 enjoyed great reunion

The Ironton High School graduating class of 1958 celebrated its 55th class reunion Sept. 27-29.
Our reunion opened with a tailgate party at the Ironton-Portsmouth football game. Our tailgate was very successful thanks to the Athletic Director, Mark Lafon. He not only let us set up our party in the courtyard, he made sure we had access to the restrooms and reserved a section of seats for us. During the planning stages, Mark always answered or returned my calls, no matter how many times I called.
Thank you, Mark.
On Saturday, thanks to Theresa Bowen (who gave up her Saturday morning for us), we had a tour of the high school. Such a big difference from the time we were there. The community and students should be so proud.
We also toured the Ro-Na Theater that is currently undergoing renovations. The tours were arranged by Myra Boyer Diamond.
Classmates and guests then enjoyed a dinner and social hour at the local VFW club. Both the tailgate and dinner were catered by Joy Coffman, a local caterer. Helen Leach baked a three-flavored cake, which was decorated in school colors. Thanks to Theresa, Joy and Helen.
A special thanks went out to Carolyn Alstott Morgan, who keeps a record of classmates’ email and snail-mail addresses. If she does not have your address and you are a member of the class of 1958, please contact one of the committee members and they will forward the information to her.
Tom Riley volunteered to take the photos. Tom just recently had two books published. They are currently available on Amazon.com.
We also had a classmate who built his own airplane and flew from his home in Amelia, Ohio, to the reunion. Happy flying to Richard King. Thanks to Carolyn and Tom.
We wrapped up the reunion with a breakfast at the Park Avenue Apartments (which is the old Marting Hotel). The hotel was built by the grandfather of our classmate Denny Madden. Keith Taylor, chef, set up a wonderful breakfast buffet. Thank you, Keith.
The committee, Lynda Wilburn Bryant, Myra Boyer Diamond, Pay Gannon Miller, Joyce Smith Edgington and Joy Corn, sincerely hope everybody enjoyed our 55th reunion as much as we enjoyed planning it for them. It was wonderful seeing all of you and we hope you all had a safe and pleasurable trip home. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our next one.
Thanks committee, couldn’t have done it without you.
