ATHENS (AP) — Cooper Rush’s third touchdown pass, a 5-yarder to Courtney Williams with 22 seconds remaining, lifted Central Michigan to a 26-23 upset over Ohio.
Ryan Boykin had given Ohio a 23-19 lead on a 1-yard run with 4:42 left. CMU (3-4, 2-1 Mid-American) failed to get a first down and punted. However, the punt was fumbled and recovered by Joe Bacci, setting up the Chippewas at the Ohio 39 for the winning drive.
The Chippewas played without injured receiver Titus Davis, who CMU coach Dan Enos calls the team’s best player. But CMU, led by Rush and Saylor Lavallii, who had 184 yards rushing on 26 carries plus a receiving touchdown, snapped the Bobcats’ four-game winning streak. Rush was 20-of-28 passing for 224 yards and an interception.
The Bobcats (4-2, 1-1) were hurt by four turnovers. Tyler Tettleton was 24-of-33 passing for 319 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
