RIO GRANDE — The Coal Grove Hornets got a chance to redeem themselves, and now they get to do even more.

After being disappointed in their performance at the Ohio Valley Conference cross country meet, the Hornets rebounded by placing third in the Division III district meet Saturday at the University of Rio Grande.

The Hornets Jonathan Joseph, Brandon Adkins, Wyatt Schultz, Josh Pierce, Michael Knuckles, Michael Kearns and James Webb will now run in the regional meet next Saturday in Pickerington.

Other team members are Tanner McDaniel and Zac Brubaker.

“We’ve only sent two boys to the regional meet in the past 10 years, so this is a great accomplishment for this team,” said Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.

“Our boys were disappointed after our OVC meet, but I kept telling them we needed to focus on the bigger picture and they did. All seven runners ran hard to reach this goal and that’s what it means to be a team.”

The accomplishment was made even more difficult because Joseph and Pierce both play football and Adkins is a golfer.
