Verna McCutcheon

Verna Mae (Wood) McCutcheon, died peacefully at her home on Dec. 11, 2013. Verna was born May 23, 1924, in Ironton, to William and Beulah Wood.

She married Dr. James McCutcheon on July 9, 1955. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James, on Nov. 14, 1992; brother, Grayson Wood; sisters, Rosemary Conley and Stella Angelone; and nephew, Mark Wood.

She is survived by her brother, Clyde Wood, of San Gabriel, Calif.; sister, Sadie Brown, of Houston, Texas; and several nieces.

Verna was a member of Stark County Medical Auxiliary Society and joined a bowling league for 42 years, winning several trophies.

A special thank you to her caregivers Norma Schlabach, Jamie Fletcher, Tina Jenkins, Rachel Blevins, Sue Malkamaki and the Rev. Gordon Thomas.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gordon Thomas officiating.

Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Verna’s favorite charity, the Stark County Human Society, 5100 Peach St. NE, Louisville, Ohio 44641.

Cynthia Webb

Cynthia Mildred Webb, 102, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Kings Daughter’s Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Dayton native was born Aug. 29, 1911, a daughter to the late George L. and Maude B. Byrd Blagg. She is the widow of Curtis Webb, who passed away December 1993.

Mrs. Webb attended Waterloo Schools. She was retired from Wilson Sporting Goods and a member of Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by two sons, Curtis Sherman Webb and Cleo Condon Webb; and six brothers, Sherman, George, Montro, Waldo, Ford and Thomas Blagg.

She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Diana Webb Keffner, of Ironton, and Dorothy Webb, of Coal Grove; four grandchildren, Curtis Ray (Debbie) Webb, Larry (Melissa) Webb, Robin Heaberlin, and John (Michelle) Webb; seven great-grandchildren, Curtis Ryan Webb, Zachary Heaberlin, Cynthia Lee Ann Marcum, Tabitha Webb, Kayla Mullins, Casey Szymanski and Breanna Webb; and eight great-great grandchildren, Peri Mullins, Dean Marcum, Max Mullins, Demi Marcum, Gavin Webb, Eli Webb, Caiden Tobias and Logan Szymanski.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursdayat Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 94 County Road 44 South in Ironton with the Rev. Zachary Heaberlin and pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton is in charge of arrangements. Thomas Dickess Jr.

Thomas Dickess Jr., 83, of Kitts Hill, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 28, 1930, a son of the late Thomas and Dorothy Walls Dickess. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Conley Dickess.

Mr. Dickess was a 1949 graduate of Kitts Hill High School and retired from the Dayton Malleable, where he worked in the maintenance department. Thomas and Barbara owned and operated Dickess Market and Hardware together since 1976 and he was a member of the Union Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Faye Clonch; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Tyler Kearns

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Mark (Lana) Dickess, of Kitts Hill; daughter, Lois (Marvin) Myers, of Willow Wood; son, Brent (Michele) Dickess, of Kitts Hill; six grandchildren, Gretchen (Adam) James, of Ironton, Carol Myers, Mitchell (Brandy) Dickess, Stephanie (Markie) Cade, Tyler (Bobbi) Dickess and Trent Dickess, all of Kitts Hill; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Kearns and Connor Cade

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton with the Rev. Brian Long and the Rev. Cleo Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Mamre Cemetery and visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mark Dickess, Brent Dickess, Mitchell Dickess, Adam James, Markie Cade, Tyler Dickess and Trent Dickess. Wanda Blake

Wanda L. Blake, 69, of Lake Alfred, Fla., formerly of Gallipolis, died Saturday Nov. 14, 2013 at her residence. Arrangements are pending at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home in Gallipolis.

 

 

Robert Copley

Robert L. “Bob” Copley, 79, of Worthington, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky. Steven Wilson Matney, 50, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Matney. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Wayne, W.Va. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
