FRANKLIN FURNACE — The St. Joseph Flyers haven’t been able to get started, so coach Jeremy Williams played mechanic and installed a new starter.

The part must have worked as the Flyers scored 22 points in the first quarter and built a 12-point halftime lead en route to a 61-43 win over the Green Bobcats Saturday.

“We played better at the start of the game. We haven’t been starting well. We hit some shots and that gave us some confidence and it allowed us to get into our press,” said Williams.

The Flyers (3-1) had their best shooting performance of the young season as they hit 28-of-64 shots for 44 percent.

Wulf Goheen had 17 points and 5 steals to lead a balanced attack. Chris Lewis had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Troy Scott had 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Joseph Payton added 9 points and 6 rebounds and Hunter Pemberton dished out 5 assists.

“Everyone contributed. It was a good team win,” said Williams.

Trent Marcum led Green (0-3) with 13 points including 11 in the first quarter. He also had 4 rebounds. Brody Stormes added 10 points.

“Marcum is a nice player. We made some adjustments and we were able to take him away. He can shoot,” said Williams.

Goheen and Lewis scored 8 points each in the first quarter as St. Joseph took a 2-15 lead.

Goheen had 5 more points in the second quarter to offset 6 points by Stormes as the Flyers went up 35-23 at the half.

Payton scored 4 points in the third quarter as St. Joseph extended its lead to 50-33.

Kyle Williams had 5 of his 7 points in the fourth quarter for the Flyers. Caleb Johnson hit a pair of 3-pointers for Green.
