LATHAM — Tough luck is making it tough on the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

For the second straight game, the Lady Vikings suffered a tough loss as they fell 56-51 to the Western Lady Indians Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Our effort was there, but we couldn’t get anything going. And it was still a four or five point game the whole game,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker. “We’ve got to execute and cut down on our mental mistakes.”

Elly Fulks led the Lady Vikings (1-4, 1-3) with 12 points and Kalli Hunt scored 11. Kelsea Massie added 9 points.

Chrissy Woods had 18 points for Western (3-2).

The game was tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter as Fulks, Brianna Brumfield and Hunt had 4 points each.

Western outscored the Lady Vikings 12-8 in the second quarter and pulled ahead 25-21 at the half. Sierra Ross came off the bench to get 4 points for the Vikes.

Fulks scored 7 points and Massie 5 in the third quarter as each team scored 16 points and it was 41-37.

Hannah Maynard scored 4 points in the fourth quarter but the Lady Vikings couldn’t rally.

“Turnovers and they hurt us inside. We got in some foul trouble and that hurt us,” said Walker.

In the reserve game, Symmes Valley won 16-3 in two quarters as Sierra Ross and Kassie had 5 points each.
