CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers slowed down the Portsmouth Lady Trojans right about the time Jordan Porter kicked into gear.
With Chesapeake leading by just 2 points at the half, Porter took over and ignited the Lady Panthers to a 62-45 win over the Lady Trojans Monday.
Porter scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds to spark the win. Sydnee Hall scored 12 points, Kaylee Curry added 9 points and 11 rebounds and Atiya Spaulding blocked two shots.
“Porter played a great game. From about the middle of the third quarter on she just took over the game for us,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball. “She is the strongest, most athletic combination of a female athlete around and she showed it tonight.”
Peyton Williams scored 13 points for Portsmouth — all in the first half. Semajah Parker had 12 points.
“We wanted to slow down the Williams girl and we did. They had some other girls who stepped up, but adjusted to that and we were able to pull away,” said Ball.
Hall scored 6 points in the first quarter to help Chesapeake take an 11-10 lead. Wesleigh Jackson hit a pair of 3-pointers for Portsmouth.
Porter scored 10 points in the second quarter to offset 10 by Williams and the Lady Panthers were up 25-23 at the break.
But Portsmouth got 9 more points in the third quarter and the lead grew to 44-35.
Chesapeake used a balanced offense to outscored Portsmouth 18-10 in the final quarter.
“We had some girls came off the bench who did well. It was good to see that, too,” said Ball.
Chesapeake plays at Fairland Thursday in a key OVC game.
